Farm Update - November 2021
Newsletter sent out 5 November 2021
Good morning!
This autumn has been one of the most beautiful in my memory. Waking to stunning sunrises over the patchwork orange, red, and yellow mountains has been a welcome show after the blur of a summer. We are learning our new property during this change of the seasons as well, and while we have had frost, we haven't had the frost yet. Not the killing frost. This could be good news for lovers of fresh flowers in autumn of 2022 :)
Things are progressing on the new farm! We work hard in the dwindling daylight of the evening hours to knock out farm projects, feeling winter on our backs. This week we had great success in planting our garlic! Our first garden beds are trucking right along with cold-hardy winter greens, veggies, and fall-seeded flowers establishing their roots in their cozy row-cover tunnels. (see attached photos)
We will be at the Abingdon Farmers Market this week (Saturday, 11/6) with more everlasting dried wreaths AND fresh evergreen wreaths- I know everybody is ready to get their Christmas on. Find us there from 10am to 12pm!
I've got a few more exciting tidbits to share including a warm welcome from Washington County, new tee designs in time for the holidays, and a call for foliage! Keep reading below:
WARM WELCOME
We are honored to be featured in the Washington County News this week! We met journalist Carolyn Wilson at the Farmers Market last week and she wrote so kindly about our story and our farm. Thanks again Carolyn!
P.S. It was Halloween weekend, thus the witch hat :)
NEW TEE DESIGNS
We are so excited to have teamed up with local homesteader and artist Mina Mirkwood to feature her exquisite art on two new t-shirt designs! She did such an amazing job of capturing our style and passion in her designs. (see attached photo of new designs) Check them out on TeeSpring.
There are so many colors, sizes, and styles to choose from- and even kids sizes so you can match if you like! I ran into a little hang-up with the Bolt & Bouquet design, but hang tight! It will be uploaded asap.
Find the fabulous Mina here. Not only is her art incredible, she also makes homesteading videos for YouTube and co-hosts Hill Talk: An Appalachian Podcast.
CALL FOR FOLIAGE
It is Christmas wreath season! Which means I will be going through oodles of branches of evergreen foliage. Do you have trees or shrubs that need pruning/trimming? I will trim them in exchange for the foliage! I'm looking for anything that is evergreen through the winter and more specifically magnolia and holly. Reply to this email or send me a text to let me know! 540-570-0744
That was a long one! Thanks for reading this far. Your support of the farm means so much as we work to make this dream happen. Wishing you stunning sunrises, warm drinks on the cool days, and calm moments to take in the beauty that is November 2021.
